Marie K. Aurigemma
Marie K. Aurigemma, longtime and active resident of Union County, died at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls on March 9, 2017. Afflicted by dementia in recent years, Marie looked forward to the day she would be called home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, Whom received as personal savior at age fifteen. She was laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, Boonton, next to her beloved Clement (1981) on March 13, 2017, where Mr. Fred Quinlan led a devotional from the gospel of John. At Marie's request, there was no viewing or service.
Marie Kirchner was born on January 14, 1919 in the family home at 203 Lincoln Avenue, Dunellen. She and Clem were married in 1941, living and working in New York City until they moved to Fanwood in 1957. An inseparable couple for over forty years, Marie and Clem were active in Republican organizations in Fanwood and Union County, where Marie served a long and devoted tenure in the County Clerk's office, under the administration of Walter Halpin. As Naturalization Clerk, Marie was recognized in 1979 for having inducted 10,000 Union County residents into American citizenship. She personally administered every oath taken.
Descended from the Balling and Blank families, Marie was proud of her German heritage. She would fondly recall, in much detail, her great-grandmother's efforts in raising three young children after losing her German-born husband, Union Army Corporal Nicholas Blank, in 1863 during the Civil War. The family now had to relocate from Mt. Bethel, Warrenville, "over the hill" to Dunellen in the hope of sharing in the prosperity the new railroad corridor would bring to the area. Genealogy and international travel were Marie's favorite hobbies.
Marie leaves many friends and second cousins. Her "adopted daughter", Eileen Quinlan of Whitehouse Station, served as her guardian, helper and hairdresser-in-training. Regardless of its outcome, any haircut given by Eileen was perfect. The family deeply appreciates the love and care given by the staff of Seabrook Village during Marie's final years.
