Obituary of Joseph Anthony Ippolito

On January 28, 2022.  Joe passed away at his home with his family by his side. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Michele (née Felice), his son Dean and his wife Ruthie, his daughter Gina, and his four grandchildren, Maria, Joseph, Ella, and Lucia Ippolito. He is also survived by his sister, Catherine Olsen, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Joe, a first-generation American,  was born the youngest of seven children of Giuseppe and Dora Ippolito. After graduating from Snyder High School, and being in the Air Force for four years, he attended Jersey City State College, receiving a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees at Seton Hall.

 

Joe was a teacher for 38 years, with 30 of those years in the Ridgefield Park School System and three at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was an award-winning teacher and loved what he did. He was the New Jersey State Chess Federation president for six years, and implemented the Chess for Vets program in New Jersey. He was an elected member of the executive board of the U.S. Chess Federation. He was also a member of the Boonton Township Board of Education.

 

No public wake or funeral will be held. There may be a "Celebration of Life" reception in the future for family and close friends.
