Obituary of Carolyn Ann Reed
Carolyn Ann “Carol” Reed, 79 of Boonton
Carolyn Ann “Carol” Reed, 79 of Boonton passed away on December 19, 2021. Born in Morristown on December 25, 1941, Carol was a lifelong resident of Boonton.
Carol was a proud homemaker and was very active in the Boonton community. She was a 50 year member of the Boonton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she made lifelong friends, and was a Gray hawks Cheerleader coach. A devout Catholic, Carol was a volunteer at both Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church in Boonton.
She grew up as the eldest of seven and attended Bayley-Ellard High School in Madison. In 1960, she went to IBM school. After her graduation, she obtained a position with the Trust Company Bank of Morris County. Carol met her husband Jim at the bank and married in 1961 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Boonton. The couple had five children.
Carol was an avid Devils and Giant fan. She enjoyed healthy, but fierce, competition with anyone who watched Jeopardy with her. Sunday BBQS were a staple to summer weekends. It was not unusual for Carol to cheerfully welcome others to her home – as she considered everyone family. Carol delighted in gardening, reading, cooking, (especially Czechoslovakian food), Manasquan, Disney trips, and her dear friend, Ruthie McCormick.
Visitation will be held at The Dangler, Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 W. Main Street, Boonton, NJ 07005 on Thursday, December 23, 2021 from 3 – 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 24, 2021 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 910 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ 07005. Interment will be private.
Carol is survived by her husband of 60 years Jim Reed; her loving children Jimmy Reed (Margaret Latta), Michael Reed (Nina), Stephen Reed, Brian Reed (Corde) and Suzy Reed (Tom Verrone); her 6 grandchildren; Lauren, Noah, Sarah, Sophia, Isabell, and Vivian and 1 great grandchild; Blair; her caring sisters Susan Marcello, Peggy Bell, Cathy Hogan, Cindy Palazzo and Mary Ellen McCormick; and many treasured nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her brother Corporal Michael Zibura Jr., who died in action in Vietnam.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Carol’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 23 Vreeland Rd. #105, Florham Park, NJ 07932, or the Boonton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, PO Box 16 Boonton, NJ 07005.
