Michael Emerick
Michael Emerick Jr. passed away on February 17, 2021. Mike was welcomed into eternal life by St.Joseph and the rest of the carpenters, they have long awaited his carpentry skills, but those skills will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Mike was born at home, in Boonton, along with his twin sister Cassie, and was a lifelong resident. Mike is a veteran of the Korean War where he proudly served his country from 1953-1955 as an M.P. stationed in Ft Campbell, Kentucky. After high school Mike began his carpentry business and worked for 60+ years, retiring at the age of 83. He married Ruth Russell and they had four children. Mike loved to travel and visited all 50 United States. He drove to California 15 times. One of his favorite destinations was our nation’s national parks, specifically the Grand Canyon, which he visited numerous times, hiking down to Phantom Ranch from the rim two times and also rafting with his son down the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon. At age 50, Mike celebrated by going skydiving. Mike believed in making the most of each and every day. If you knew Mike, he was always on the go and you either keep up or get out of the way. Mike loved breakfast at the Plaza Diner, coffee from McDonald’s, working with his kids, vanilla ice cream, but most of all, time shared with family and friends.
Mike was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, and served in the Boonton Fire Dept: Harmony hose and engine for over 65 years. He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus, and the Boonton Panthers.
Mike is predeceased by his parents Michael and Catherine (nee Kufta), brother Robert and sisters Gertrude Paszkowski and Cassie Deskovick. Mike is survived by his beloved four children; Michael III (Chris), Ellen Worsdorfer (Erik), Nancy, Thomas; three grandchildren; Taryn and Taylor Emerick and Jacen Worsdorfer, and many lifelong friends including the Charettes, Bentley’s, Drugac’s, Bednar’s, and Glennon’s.
The funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10a.m. on Wednesday, February 24th at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Boonton. Friends may visit with the family on February 23rd at the Dangler/Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 Main Street, Boonton, from 3-7PM. In lieu of flowers contributions in Mike’s name may be made to Kiwanis Volunteer Ambulance Service, Lathrop Ave, Boonton, NJ 07005, Boonton Fire Department, Boonton Ave, Boonton or Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, Oak Street, Boonton. During the COVID 19 pandemic, all persons entering the Funeral Home or Church will be required to wear a face mask or face covering throughout their stay. Likewise, all social distancing rules must be adhered to. Gathering in groups should not happen. A continued flow throughout the faciliy will allow everyone to pay their respects.
