Obituary of Barbara W Guthrie

Barbara Kavanaugh Guthrie, 85, of Boonton, passed away on February 1, 2021 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. Born in the Bronx, NY, Barbara was raised in New York, lived in Towaco before settling in Boonton 40 years ago.

Barbara worked in Vocation Rehabilitation at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital in Morris Plains, where she developed the work and training program, used as a model statewide. Barbara was a 50 year member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Boonton, where she set up the altar in preparation for Mass. She had the distinction of being the 1st female Scoutmaster to disabled children in Rockaway. Barbara was also a member of the Boonton Senior citizens.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street, Boonton, NJ 07005. Interment will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 11 AM at Greenwood Cemetery in Boonton. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Barbara’s name be made to St. John Episcopal Church, 226 Cornelia St., Boonton, NJ 07005. Barbara was predeceased by her caring sister Dorothy Pennino. She is survived by her loving children Thomas Kavanaugh III, Carol Kavanaugh, Kathleen Mahler (John) and John Kavanaugh (Peggy); her cherished grandchildren Nicole, Mellissa, Alayne, John, John Thomas, Kelly Ann and Stacey; and her great grandchildren Adele and Charles.

During the COVID 19 pandemic, all persons entering the Funeral Home or Church

 will be required to wear a face mask or face covering throughout their stay. Likewise, all social distancing rules must be adhered to. Gathering in groups should not happen. A continued flow throughout the facility will aid in keeping us all safe, with everyone having an opportunity to pay their respects.
