Obituary of Mary-Alice Shortall
Mary Hally Shortall, 55, of Boonton, NJ passed away peacefully on August 23, 2020.
Born and raised in South Huntington, NY and Basking Ridge, NJ to her loving
parents, Luke J. Hally, Jr. and Maureen Hally, she settled in Boonton with her
husband Brian Shortall 26 years ago.
Mary was a kind, gentle, loving person who was beloved to all who knew her. She
was defined by her abiding faith, devotion to family, and a great generosity of spirit.
Mary graduated from Seton Hall University with a BSN and was employed as a Legal
Nurse Investigator at Porzio, Bromberg, & Newman law firm in Morristown.
She was past President of the NJ Association of Legal Nurse Consultants. A dedicated
volunteer at Several Source Shelter and the Market Street Mission, Mary was active
in her community and devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and her church. She was
actively engaged in fund-raising for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, where her
children were educated in their younger years. Her love of God and commitment to
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, brought
her great joy. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Mary enjoyed gardening, yoga,
entertaining, and Cape May. She was blessed with many wonderful friends.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 26 years, Brian Shortall, and cherished
children Erin Shortall and Connor Shortall, as well as her adoring parents, Luke and
Maureen Hally, and her loving sisters, Deirdre Hally Shaffer of Doylestown, PA and
Tara (Tim) Smith of Succasunna, NJ and was preceded in death by her brother, Luke
J. Hally III. She was dedicated to her many nieces and nephews. Her warmth,
guidance, and laughter will be carried in their hearts forever.
Visitation will take place on Friday August 28, 2020 from 4-7 PM at the Dangler
Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 W. Main Street, Boonton, NJ 07005*
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral mass will be held privately.
Letters of condolence may be posted at danglerlewisandcareyfuneralhome.com. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Mary’s memory be made to
Several Source Shelter in Ramsey, NJ .
*All guests are required to wear a face mask throughout their visit. All social
distancing rules must be adhered to and gathering in groups should not happen. A
continued flow throughout the facility will aid in keeping everyone safe while they
pay their respects
